We present observations of the recently-discovered variable carbon-atmosphere white dwarf SDSS J1426+5752. This star is likely to be a prototype for a new class of pulsating white dwarf, although some circumstantial evidence has hinted that this star could be a carbon analog of AM CVn systems. We present newly-obtained observations of this variable and discuss their implications in relation to the exact nature of the star and its potential relevance to the end stages of stellar evolution.
