The properties of galactic OH and H2O masers in regions of star formation and associated with evolved stars are described. For both types it is clear that resolution and mapping capabilities of the QUASAT mission can be used to good effect. The problem of interstellar scattering is discussed. It should not impose serious constraints on the study of OH and H2O masers. On the contrary, the masers may be used to study the scattering law.
