High-resolution spectra between 3100 and 7180 A of the quasar PKS 0528-250 are presented. The spectra were obtained at a resolution of about 2 A FWHM with the image-photon counting system and RGO spectrograph on the Anglo-Australian 3.9-m telescope. Absorption line systems are identified at red shifts of 2.81322, 2.81100, 2.53758 and 2.14077, corresponding to H I, C II, N I, O I, Al II, Si II, P II, S II, Ar I and possibly CI, C III, N II, N III, Si III, S III, S IV, Fe III, C IV, N V, Al III, Si IV and O VI in the first two systems, Al II, Si II, Si III, P II, S II, C IV, Si IV and possibly Fe II in the third and H I, C IV, and possibly C II, N I, O I, Al II, Si II, Si III, Si IV, P II and Fe III in the fourth. Lyman alpha profiles are found to correspond to densities from 2 x 10 to the 21st to 5 x 10 to the 20th/sq cm, and depletions by factors of 8 to 160 relative to solar abundance are calculated for Si II, O I, N I, Si II and Fe II in the first two systems. It is pointed out that 43 of the 112 lines shortward of the Lyman alpha absorption have identifications with ions other than hydrogen.
