A theoretical analysis is made of Blitz's (1979) hypothesis that there is an increase in circular velocity in the outer regions of the galaxy. It is found as a result of a series of calculations that this hypothesis does not correspond to any valid data, but is instead the result of an excessive simplification of previous data processing methods. Taking into account the possibility of the radial motions of the gas in the outer regions, it is demonstrated that the existing observational data seem to support the model of a flat rotation curve for the Galaxy: the bending of the outer regions of the galactic disk has no significant effect on the observed radial velocities of the gaseous component. It is also shown that the undular form of the rotation curves may be the result of spiral density waves.
