The X-ray source Cyg X-2 has been observed with the 6-m telescope in violet and ultraviolet filters. Sporadic variability has been detected on time scales of 10-100 sec, but on scales of 10 to the -6th sec to 1 sec variability was absent from all the observations. The cutoff in the optical variability time scale at tau(min) about 10-30 sec implies that the size of the region where the X-ray flux is converted into optical radiation is R about 10 to the 12th cm.
