It is suggested that measurements of infrared sky noise (an inherent part of airborne infrared astronomy measurements) can be used to study stratospheric turbulence. It is shown how even a relatively simple measurement and interpretation can be used to verify the validity of the Kolmogoroff spectrum for stratospheric turbulence, and to estimate the value of the outer scale and that of the turbulent diffusion coefficient. The turbulence may be analyzed either through the rms flux variation or through the structure function.
