In this paper we make a comparison of the data collected from the blazar Mkn 501 with the Cherenkov telescope CT1 of the HEGRA Collaboration and the All Sky Monitor (ASM), on board of the RXTE (X-ray Timing Explorer) satellite. We analyze data from the observation seasons 1996 till 1999. In these periods the source Mkn 501 has shown quite different behaviors: quiescent low-state and a high-state showing quasi-periodic oscillations and episodic bursts. The study of correlation between the gamma-ray and the X-ray regime is of crucial importance for the development of unified scenarios. .
