An investigation of the change in the spectrum of squared frequencies with the increased degree of disorder is presented. Vibration of a two-component 500 atom linear chain with the 28 to 16 mass ratio is studied, obtaining squared frequency-spectra for several cases with different degrees of disorder. Eigenvectors are also calculated for a simple case to show that a local vibration mode exists at disorder. In the presence of an additional impurity atom in the chain, localized vibration modes appear at the impurity atom above the optical branch, and between the optical and acoustical branches. Vibration of the chain with variable force constants governed by a probability distribution is studied as a model for a glassy substance.
