Observations of debris disks surrounding other stars provide an alternative way to understand the formation and evolution of our solar system. Spitzer brings new levels of sensitivity and spatial resolution to debris disk studies in the infrared regime. Here we present the first high spatial resolution far-infrared observations of the nearly edge-on debris disk surrounding beta Pictoris, obtained with the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS). This system is of particular interest because of its youth (~20 Myr), which is the era of terrestrial planetary formation. The radius of the disk is at least ~60° (1156 AU) in extent at both 24 and 70 um, comparable to the size detected by ground based optical images in scattered light. We will compare the surface brightness distributions of the disk at different wavelengths to construct the disk temperature distribution for various grain models (e.g. composition, particle sizes/size distributions). Multi-wavelength comparisons (from optical to sub-millimeter) of the beta Pictoris system will be discussed.
