Scientific paper

The results are presented of a search for very high energy gamma-rays from SN 1987A between August 1987 and May 1988. No counting rate excess from the source is observed. The larger enhancement is seen in January 1988, but is statistically not significant. The derived upper limits to the gamma-ray and proton luminosities of the SN are 1.9 x 10 to the 40th erg/s and 1.2 x 10 to the 42nd erg/s, respectively.
