It is shown that the Doppler effect influences the continuous spectrum of an X-ray source in a binary system in such a way as to reveal that the source is a double system. A procedure based on spectrum analysis of time series of X-ray counts in a specified energy range is suggested as a means of utilizing the Doppler effect to identify X-ray binaries. As an example, the procedure is applied to Cyg X-1 in its low state.
