The possibilities offered by the Hubble telescope in sighting other planetary systems in the Galaxy are compared to the present ground-based observations, and the importance of the Hubble success is emphasized. The problems the Hubble telescope is supposed to help solve are described, such as the possibility of finding a planet in the system with Epsilon Eridani as a sun, the properties of quasars and galaxies which collapse into them, the mapping of dark matter, the age of the Universe, and its finiteness. The telescope, its instruments, and their capabilities are reviewed, as well as the future plans for revisiting the Hubble on orbit.
