The formation of diatomic oxide grains in the interstellar medium is briefly discussed, and the infrared properties of several oxide materials are presented. It is shown that SiO has a broad featureless absorption profile centred at 9.6 microns, while FeO has an absorption peak at 19 microns. A discussion of the wavelength dependence of polarization at 10 microns is also given.
