A spherical nebula with a deficiency of small particles in regions near the central star is considered. Light scattering is calculated on the basis of Mie theory for spherical dust grains consisting of dirty ice and silicates. Only single scattering is taken into account. The results show that a significant decrease in the degree of polarization is possible for such an inhomogeneous nebula, particularly in the red region of the spectrum.
