Scientific paper

X-ray astronomy is discussed with reference to the HEAO-1 satellite, which can detect both hard and soft X-rays in the 0.25 to 20 keV range. Objects which are best studied by an analysis of their X-ray emissions are reviewed, including white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes. Attention is given to variations in X-ray pulsation, e.g., regular pulsars, transient X-ray sources, bursters, and quasars.
