Measurement of the apparent rotation of the stars in the nuclear region of M31 shows that a peak velocity of approximately 60 km/s occurs at a radius of r about 1.5 arcsec or 5 pc. The velocity then falls to about 0 km/s between 3 and 6 arcsec before rising again. This form of velocity curve can be simply understood in terms of a two-component dynamical model: one component represents the nucleus, and the second represents the bulge of M31. Close to the nucleus, there is no evidence for line-of-sight mean stellar velocities along the minor axis. Neglecting the central rotation peak, the overall velocity gradient to a radius of 2 arcmin is approximately 0.5 km/s per arcsec.
