The possibility is considered that a number of solar mass-loss events were involved in the origin of the cloud of comets that appears to surround the solar system. An analysis is performed which shows that some multiple set of events would have made it moderately likely for the solar system to be equipped with an Oort cloud and that the average statistics are much more favorable for setting up the Oort cloud by several events than by a single event. The effect of two mass-loss events is examined, and it is found that the initial mass of the solar disk would have to have been at least about 0.004 solar mass if the Oort cloud was formed by just two such events.
