Available models for the solar wind are briefly reviewed. The plasma electron component experiment carried out onboard the Mars 3 probe is described, and the results of electron temperature measurements are compared to those obtained from solar wind models. A discrepancy is found, and a mechanism for the decrease of electron heat conductivity is proposed.
