The paper presents calculations of plasma flow inside the plasmapause corresponding to the distribution of external pressure at the plasmapause in the presence of uniform magnetospheric-plasma flow, assuming that the corotation rate inside the plasmasphere is high and that the plasmapause is approximated by a circle. It is shown that the velocity component inside the plasmasphere, differing from corotation, reduces to the semidiurnal harmonic, which, together with the diurnal dependence of the ionospheric conductivity, leads to the appearance of the diurnal current harmonic in the ionosphere, corresponding to the Sq-variation current in terms of the position of cells and the total current in them, but having a 180-deg difference in phase.
