After an introduction of the phenomenon of superhump in cataclysmic variables of SU UMa type and of the various types of light variation in recently discovered X-ray novae, a theoretical investigation is made of the relation between them. It is conjectured that the superhump phenomenon occurs not only in the optical range, but may also appear in the uv and X ranges. Lastly, the method of using superhump observations to judge whether or not the main star is a black hole is outlined and applied.
