An extension to the theory of General Magnetic Reconnection (GMR) is presented. In particular, a new analytical relation between the rate of change of newly connected magnetic flux and the maximum possible value of the parallel component of the electric field integrated along the magnetic field will be derived. Estimates of the maximum value based on three-dimensional MHD simulations will be presented also.
