We show how to carry out a practical application of the method of addition of layers for solving non-linear problems in radiative transfer. We first give the formulae allowing to initialize the procedure and then explain how to build an entire medium by a successive addition process. We also present the details of the iterative scheme required by the non-linear character of the problem. We finally compute an illustrative test example on a 5-level hydrogen atom with 10 frequencies and examine the convergence properties of the solution.
