The advent of storage rings with electron beam cooling has made possible the study of dissociative recombination (DR) of molecular ions with precision and detail that had not been heretofore possible.(S. Datz and M. Larsson, Physica Scripta) 46, 343 (1992). In the case of diatomic molecular ions, e.g., HeH^+ + e arrow He + H, product imaging techniques yield the final internal states of the products.(J. Semaniak et al., Phys. Rev. A) 54, R4617 (1996). For polyatomic, e.g., H_3^+ + e arrow H2 + H or H + H + H, particle barrier techniques give channel branching ratios.(S. Datz et al., Phys. Rev. A) 52, 1 (1995). The results of these studies give information on areas as diverse early universe processes, intergalactic H/D ratios,(M. Larsson et al., Astron. Astrophys.) 309, L1 (1996). green glow in the earth's atmosphere,(D. Kella et al., Science) 276, 1530 (1997). and ^14N/^15N ratios in the Martian Atmosphere.(D. Kella et al., Phys. Rev. Lett.) 77, 2432 (1996).
