The periods of solar g modes given by Scherrer and Delache have been compared with those computed for a standard solar model. This comparison shows that the identification they propose does not provide the best fit. Two other identifications are possible. They lead to a period separation between successive asymptotic modes in good agreement with theory. The values of ΔP obtained are 35.98 and 35.64 minutes, very close to the 35.52 minutes computed from the model. Given the present accuracy of the observations, g modes do not force to question the standard solar model.
