The author has detected HDO (110 - 111) emission towards regions of probable enhanced density (⪆106 cm-3) and temperature (⪆100K): the confined region in the 8 km s-1 ridge cloud, the hot core source, and the plateau source in Orion-KL, as well as a probable condensation in the W51M region. H2O column densities in excess of 1018 cm-2 are inferred using an estimated conservative upper limit of 10-3 to the [HDO]/[H2O]-ratio. In the plateau region of Orion-KL the author even suggests that the abundance of H2O approaches that of CO. No emission was observed towards the "normal" quiescent molecular gas of the 8 and 10 km s-1 ridge clouds in Orion. The author's conclusion is that, unless the density of the confined 8 km s-1 cloud is very high (⪆108 cm-3), the abundance of H2O is enhanced by an order of magnitude in this region compared to normal interstellar values.
