Recent breakthrough discoveries of gamma-ray burst afterglows in X-rays and in the optical band allow the application of parallax distance estimation to this exciting phenomenon. We give a short outline of the method, in which we estimate the amount and direction of parallactic motion for a given distance, direction on the sky, and time of year. We apply this method to the Hubble Space Telescope observations of the probable afterglow from GRB970228, and to the observations of the proposed radio counterpart of GRB970508. We obtain 3σ distance lower limits of 5 pc for GRB970228 and 316 pc for GRB970508, which excludes the Oort Cloud and all local sites for these bursts.
