The major goal of the VSOP Continuum Survey Program is to determine the statistical properties of the sub-milliarcsecond structure at 5 GHz for a complete sample of the brightest radio sources in the sky. Similar surveys in the past using new technology have proven extremely valuable in the understanding of the properties of compact extragalactic sources. Using pre-launch ground surveys, 289 of the complete sample of 400 sources are sufficiently strong to be detectable with VSOP. Thus the mission is devoting 20% of the project time to observe all of the survey sources which are not already proposed for General Observing Time projects. Our initial results describe the statistical properties of the sub-milliarcsecond structure, possible correlations with other source properties, and unusual properties of a few radio sources.
