Light curves and polarimetry in the IR region of the X-ray source 2A 0311-227, which has been identified with an AM Herculis-type binary star, are presented. Photometry at 1.25 and 2.2 microns and 1.25-micron polarimetry were obtained with the 3.8-m UK IR telescope at Mauna Kea, and are compared with optical light and circular polarization curves. Observations reveal a sharp linear polarization pulse repeating with an 81-min period and narrow minima in the J and K bands, which are fit to a period consistent with the polarization period and a corresponding ephemeris. The IR circular polarization is observed to be much lower than that in the optical, while the narrow light curve minimum is not apparent in the optical. Possible explanation for the IR radiation and its noncorrelation with the optical are considered
