Image Detector Scanner observations were made for supposed DA white dwarfs, for which the available photometric and parallax data indicated rather high or low surface gravities and masses, compared to the average DA value. The interpretation of H-gamma line profiles using a newly calculated grid of theoretical line profiles shows that 6 out of 8 objects fall into the narrow mass range of 0.58 plus or minus solar mass occupied by most of all DA stars according to Koester et al. (1979). One object, EG 55, is a sdO; EG 56 shows no detectable H-gamma, although H-alpha and H-beta had been seen by Bessel and Wickramasinghe (1977).
