Class II methanol masers are uniquely associated with young massive stars, but is is unclear the extent to which the sources which excite methanol masers represent a homogenous or heterogenous sample of objects. Currently we have a only a limited understanding of the range of environments in which these masers occur and the sources which excite them. In this proposal we request time to carry a survey of a large, complete sample of methanol masers from the Methanol MultiBeam (MMB) Survey to investigate the properties of the molecular gas associated with these sources using 4 transitions of ammonia. These observations will allow us to determine the temperature of the cores in which these masers are located and their ammonia column density. Together these will allow us to define the range of environments in which methanol masers are found and the evolutionary status of these objects. The presence of the highest excitation lines will also allow us to identify candidates with possible circumstellar disks for future high resolution observations.
