A new velocity curve based upon 19 10 Å mm-1 spectrograms in the red region of ζ Gem has been completed. The metallic lines indicate that the mean velocity is unchanged for 80 years, the shortening of the period between 1900-1950 is continuing at a slower rate, and the amplitude may he slightly smaller now than in previous years. The ionized lines show no depth effects when their velocities are compared with those of Fe I lines.
The Hα line appears in absorption at all phases but its curve is never coincident with the metallic-line curve. The γ velocity of the Hα curve is 9 km s-1 more positive than the metallic lines showing that the Hα line is formed in predominantly falling material. The morphology of the Hα curve has similarities to that of both shorter- and longer-period cepheids; in particular the large positive displacement soon after minimum light is a hint of the positively displaced component that appears suddenly in stars of period 16 days and greater near light minimum.
