The high northern declination of Venus during this particular elongation in the eight-year cycle is usually very favourable for British observers. However, weather conditions were extremely unfavourable and, although the previous eastern elongation enjoyed the driest spring this century, observers had to contend with one of the wettest autumns on record. The observations from which the following report has been compiled were of a high standard but, understandably, fewer in number.
