In this talk I will focus on theoretical aspects of three major topics: (1) sources, geometries, and physical parameters of the hot gas observed in UV absorption lines of C IV, NV, an O VI; (2) sources and radiative transport of the (1-4 Rydberg) ionizing photons inferred from emission lines seen in the diffuse ionized gas; and (3) implications of galactic disk/halo interfaces for understanding and analyzing quasar absorption lines (Ly-alpha and metal-lines). I will provide a summary of recent theoretical modeling, emphasizing processes associated with supernova remnants (SNRs) and superbubbles, galactic fountains, and conductive and turbulent interfaces between hot and cold gas. I will allude briefly to the role of magnetic pressure and topology. The thesis behind my discussion is that superbubbles, OB associations, and chimneys are key ingredients in controlling the transport of hot gas and LyC radiation throughout galaxy disks and halos. I will conclude by describing some recent observations and theories that suggest the importance of massive-star photoionization and heavy-element transport into galactic halos and the intergalactic medium at both low and high redshift.
