The IUE UV spectrum of F supergiant alpha Car was used to study the spectra of Be and shell stars, enigmatic binary epsilon Aur, intersystem FeII lines, and instrumental effects. The UV spectra of alpha Car show very strong absorptions due to FeII lines from the ground state and low lying metastable levels. Comparison with the spectrum of epsilon Aur shows that epsilon Aur B is similar in spectral type and luminosity to epsilon Aur A (FO Ia). The spectra of B and A shell stars show striking resemblance to that of alpha Car. Several intersystem lines of FeII are also identified in the spectrum of alpha Car.
