The IUE T Tauri data are considered. Significant changes are seen in the Mg II line profiles at different epochs. An emission measure distribution is derived and chromospheric models are computed. There is evidence from lower temperature lines of two different density components in the chromosphere. A two-component model is deduced, involving a low density region with Ne = 1 billion per cu cm, possibly associated with the observed stellar wind, and a high density region with Ne = 100 billion per cu cm. The high density region is the source of the high temperature emission, such as C IV, N V and the X-rays. The chromospheric radiation losses are a significant fraction of the stellar luminosity.
