An analysis is given of the behavior of long-wavelength perturbations in an isotropic universe filled with a collisionless gas of finite-mass particles (neutrinos). The asymptotic behavior earlier found by the author for long-wave perturbations during the ultrarelativistic era of the cosmological expansion is fitted to the asymptotic expressions for the nonrelativistic stage, which agree with the results of Lifshits (1946). The nonzero neutrino rest mass implies that an isotropic world model will experience perturbations of a special type not hitherto investigated. For scalar perturbations of this type arising at the epoch of neutrino decoupling from matter, the perturbation in the neutrino energy density relative to the undisturbed energy density would have been able to grow by a factor of 100,000 if the neutrino rest mass is 30 eV.
