Using the computer program SUPERSTRUCTURE, radiative lifetimes have been calculated for the 3p^3^(^4^S^0^)4s ^3^S^0^ and ^5^S^0^ states in S I. For the metastable 4s ^5^S^0^, the present theoretical lifetime is in good agreement with a measurement by Delalic et al. (1990) using the high-frequency-deflection (HFD) technique and with the work of Mueller (1968) based on the wall-stabilized arc method but it differs by more than a factor of two from a recent value measured by Mason (1994) using the electron impact dissociative excitation of CS_2_. New theoretical f-values are reported for the 3p^4^ ^3^P-3p^3^4s ^3,5^S^0^ far UV resonance transitions in S I and they are compared with previous theoretical and experimental results.
