We analyse the behaviour of coronal activity as a function of rotation for a large sample of single and binary evolved stars for which we have obtained CORAVEL high precision rotational velocities. This study shows that tidal effects play a direct role in determining the X-ray activity level in binary evolved stars. The circularisation of the orbit is a necessary property for enhanced coronal activity in evolved binary stars.
