Supernovae: General, Hydrodynamics, Instabilities

Scientific paper

The exact analytical solution for the hydrodynamic instability growth rates of the flame front propagating in a gravitational field is obtained for the case of an arbitrary equation of state of the burning matter. The obtained solution is applied to the problem of the flame front stability in a white dwarf in Supernova Ia (SNIa) events. It is shown that the hydrodynamic instabilities enhance the flame velocity slightly at the center of the white dwarf and may lead to considerable acceleration of the flame front at low densities if the carbon fraction in the white dwarf is small. Still even this acceleration of the flame cannot trigger the detonation which is expected to occur in the SNIa events.
