The 600 absorption lines and 500 emission features of FG Sge observed in 1979 and 1980 are analyzed, and the most intense features, numbering 62 lines in absorption and 86 lines in emission, are identified. It is found that the spectrum is characterized by the weakness or total absence of iron peak element lines, while lines of the rare earth elements are both numerous and strong. It is concluded that the spectral class of the star during the period of study is G8-K0 Ia, and that the spectrum does not evolve toward that of a Ba-type star, as had been predicted.
