A mechanism for resonant induction of galactic spiral arms by an orbiting satellite is examined. Some predictions - the amplitudes of spiral perturbations in galactic disks, the spiral arm feet locations, the typical radial perturbation scale - agree with observational data on a sample of galaxies from Arp's atlas. A hypothetical satellite orbiting close to the plane of the Milky Way at about 30 kpc from the center would be able to explain, in terms of the mechanism suggested, the induction in our Galaxy of both the spiral structure and the high-frequency scalloping of the gas disk observed at its outer edge.
