The departmental 12 metre vacuum X-ray facility is described and its
capabilities are indicated by an account of some of the tests for which
it has been used. Apparatus weighing up to 40 kg has been mounted in the
tank and accurately oriented in two axes, with a precision of one arc
second, to view a distant point source or a parallel beam of X-rays.
