Using the method of the O-C residuals, we find that the outbursts in soft X-ray transients (SXTs) and dwarf novae (DNe) display remarkable similarities in the variations of the recurrence time of outbursts T C. The mean TC in SXTs analyzed here is 60-650 days. Generally, the changes of TC are prominent, but not chaotic; this implies that the individual outbursts in a given SXT analyzed here are dependent on each other, as well as in DNe. In some systems, intervals of relatively constant mean TC are occasionally interrupted by episodes of rapid change. Usually, there is no relation between the current TC and the peak intensity or total energy radiated in a given outburst of an SXT, which suggests that only a small part of matter (and largely variable from outburst to outburst) is accreted onto the compact object during a single outburst.
