A brief review of IR observations is presented. Recent high quality IR spectroscopy has led to new fundamental questions related to the true nature and evolutionary status of CV secondary stars. The questions of Why do so many secondary stars have mid-K spectral type?, Where does the observed molecular emission come from?, and Are the secondary stars truly evolved? are presented and discussed.
