In the light of mounting evidence that a significant fraction of short-period, angular momentum-driven CVs have a somewhat evolved donor star we present tailor-made population synthesis calculations of newborn CVs and post-common envelope white dwarf binaries. We study the impact of evolutionary parameters on the number of CVs with an evolved donor star. Our models include systems that will undergo a thermal-timescale mass transfer phase.
