Carbon Stars: Chemical Composition, Carbon Stars: Stellar Evolution
Scientific paper
Intermediate- and low-mass stars at the late stage of their evolution experience the change of surface chemical composition, with nuclear processed material dredged up. Carbon stars are such objects whose evolution is only poorly understood. The abundance analysis using their spectra is crucial in the understanding of nuclear reactions and mixing processes taking place at the stellar interior. How can one derive the chemical composition of the stellar atmosphere from observed spectra? And what does it mean for unraveling the evolution of carbon stars?
