From a complete catalog of all star clusters in a nine-region survey of the SMC, the author uses measured cluster properties to study the rate of cluster formation and disintegration in various parts of the SMC. The mean diameters of cataloged SMC clusters is 7 pc; this value reduces to 5.8 pc for the regions for which incompleteness is not a problem. The author finds that the SMC is currently forming clusters at the rate of approximately 100 per 108years. The disintegration rate is significantly slower than for clusters in the solar neighborhood. The median age of SMC clusters is 0.9 Gyr.
