Modern interferometric arrays such as the VLA can produce images
rivalling those from conventional optical telescopes both in quality and
complexity. The recent advances contributing to this state of affairs
are numerous, but the major ones are in electronic instrumentation,
computing hardware capabilities, and algorithms.
