A study has been made of the dynamical behaviour of the longitudinal magnetic field gradient distribution in the nearest vicinity of the polarity inversion line. It is shown that a necessary condition for a filament to appear within an active region is the displacement of grad H∥ distribution toward lower gradient values as well as the homogeneity of the polarity inversion line with respect to the magnetic field. Also, maximum values of grad H∥ must not exceed a certain limiting value.
