A new "resonance" mechanism is suggested for the WR envelope emission. The intense absorption of the core radiation in resonance lines (1 → i) and in lines of absorption from the second (2 → i) and perhaps from metastable levels takes place in the envelope. The downward spontaneous transitions i → k (k = 2,3,...,i-1) result in the observed line emission. It is shown that the resonance mechanism can provide the observed absolute intensities of He II lines in the spectrum of V444 Cyg for T > 80000K. Apparently the WR phenomenon is connected just with the resonance mechanism of excitation of an expanding envelope.
